Before You Begin: What You Need to Know
Prerequisites
- A Mac or Windows PC with a minimum of 4 GB of RAM and at least 50 GB of free hard drive space.
- An Apple Developer account with access to the iOS developer beta program.
- An up-to-date version of Xcode on your Mac or an up-to-date version of Visual Studio Code or Android Studio on your Windows PC.
- A valid iOS device running iOS 18 beta 1 or later, which you can enroll in the beta program by going to Settings > General > About and tapping on Beta Profile.
Important Notes
Note: The developer beta is a pre-release version of iOS, which means it may be buggy and unstable. It’s important to only install it on your device if you are comfortable taking risks and willing to deal with potential issues.
Note: Be sure to back up all your data before installing the beta, as there is always a risk of losing your files during the installation process.
Step 1: Enroll Your Device in the Beta Program
- Open the Settings app on your device.
- Tap on General.
- Scroll down to the bottom of the page and tap on About.
- Tap on Beta Profile.
- Sign in with your Apple ID.
- If you haven’t already, download and install the iOS 18 beta profile from the App Store.
- Follow the instructions to install the profile.
Step 2: Download the Developer Beta Profile
- Open Xcode on your Mac or Visual Studio Code or Android Studio on your Windows PC.
- Go to Xcode > Preferences > Locations.
- In the “Derived Data” section, select “Developer” from the drop-down menu.
- Click the “+” button at the bottom of the list and select “Beta Profile”.
- Select the iOS 18 beta profile you want to download (usually named something like “iOS 18.0.1 beta 1”) and click “OK”.
- Wait for Xcode to download the beta profile. This may take a few minutes depending on your internet connection speed.
Step 3: Install the Beta Profile onto Your Device
- Make sure your device is connected to Wi-Fi and has enough battery life.
- Open the Settings app on your device.
- Tap on General.
- Follow the instructions provided in the article to install the beta profile onto your device.
