Before We Begin
Before you start the process of reverting to a previous version of iOS, it’s important to note that doing so could have unintended consequences, such as losing data or breaking your apps. It’s recommended that you make a full backup of your device before proceeding with this guide.
Additionally, if you are in the middle of developing an app and need to revert back to a previous version of iOS, it’s best to wait until the beta version is no longer available. This is because the beta version may have bugs that could cause issues with your app.
Step-by-Step Guide to Reverting from iOS 18 Developer Beta
Step 1: Backup Your Device
Before you start the process of reverting back to a previous version of iOS, make sure that you have backed up all your data. This is important because if something goes wrong during the process, you can restore your device from the backup.
You can back up your device using iTunes on your computer or by using iCloud. If you choose to use iCloud, make sure that you are connected to a Wi-Fi network before starting the backup process.
Step 2: Update Xcode to the Latest Version
Before you start the process of reverting back to a previous version of iOS, make sure that you have updated Xcode to the latest version. This is important because the beta version of iOS may not be compatible with older versions of Xcode.
To update Xcode, go to the App Store and search for “Xcode”. If an update is available, click on the “Install” button.
Step 3: Check if Your Device is Eligible for a Downgrade
Before you start the process of reverting back to a previous version of iOS, make sure that your device is eligible for a downgrade. Not all devices are eligible for a downgrade, so it’s important to check before proceeding.
To check if your device is eligible for a downgrade, go to Settings > General > About > Build Number. If the build number is higher than the version of iOS that you want to downgrade to, then your device is not eligible for a downgrade.
Step 4: Download the IPSW File for the Previous Version of iOS
Once you have confirmed that your device is eligible for a downgrade, download the IPSW file for the previous version of iOS that you want to downgrade to. You can find the IPSW files on Apple’s website or by searching online.
Step 5: Put Your Device into Recovery Mode
Put your device into recovery mode by following these steps:
- Connect your device to your computer using a USB cable.
- Open iTunes on your computer and select your device from the list of devices in the left-hand sidebar.
- Click on the “Recovery” tab.
- Click on the “Stock IPSW” button.
- Select the IPSW file that you downloaded for the previous version of iOS.
